Self-triggered Pitch Control for Wind Turbines Based on Semi-Markov

    • To address the issue of excessive update frequency in wind turbine pitch controllers caused by stochastic wind speeds, a self-triggered pitch control strategy for wind turbines based on the semi-Markov process was proposed. Firstly, the steady-state component of random wind speeds was partitioned into intervals based on mean value and standard deviation, and the states were established. Secondly, the variation characteristics of wind speed states were modeled using the semi-Markov process, and a semi-Markov model for wind turbines was developed. Then, a self-triggered mechanism was introduced to construct the self-triggered pitch control strategy and propose a design method for the self-triggered pitch controller of wind turbines. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method was verified by simulation experiments on a 5 MW wind turbine. Results show that compared to traditional PID control, the self-triggered pitch control strategy can maintain stable output power while minimizing the controller update frequency.
